In lieu of a real post this weekend (which is turning out busier than I’d anticipated with watching Julius Ceasar, attending the Haleiwa Arts Festival, a Going Away Party, and a final rehearsal before tech) I’ll give you pretty tomato pictures. Enjoy!

These are from my favorite tomato vendor at the Kapiolani Community College Farmers Market.

And, what might you do with some fresh tasty tomatoes? How about a nice and simple caprese salad?

Caprese Salad

serves as many as you have tomatoes to make it with!

  • tomatoes – I like a combination of different kinds, but choose whichever you think look the best
  • fresh mozzerella cheese
  • fresh basil leaves
  • good olive oil
  • salt and freshly ground pepper

Slice both the tomatoes and cheese into about 1/4″ slices. Wash your basil leaves, but leave them whole. Arrange the tomato, cheese and basil on your plate (either individual plates, or on a pretty serving platter if you choose that route), sprinkle with salt, drizzle with olive oil, and finish with a few grinds of fresh black pepper.
